Drawn to the Jerwood

The Jerwood Drawing Prize is the largest and longest running open drawing prize in the UK; this year it attracted around 3,000 entries, of which 77 were selected for the final exhibition. While its stated aim is ‘promoting excellence and talent in contemporary drawing’, it would be a grave mistake to visit the show expecting a set of well-mannered

De La Warr Pavillion pop-up shop in Bexhill

De La Warr exhibiting local artists

Something odd is stirring in Bexhill. The De La Warr Pavilion is sponsoring and showcasing twelve local artists.  It is refreshing to see an art gallery looking towards their own vicinity rather than casting their eye further afield and jumping over what is straight in front of them. HOT reporter Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went to Bexhill to find out what  was happening in  the pop art gallery in an empty shop in the town centre.

Young lives in black and white

It was good news to hear that photographs taken by a group of young people were exhibiting as part of the Brighton Photo Fringe. So HOT reporter Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went to  the Hastings Museum to see how they fared against the professionals.

Anti road protesters at Combe Haven

Campaign against BHLR steps up a gear

Roughly two hundred people attended a “Stop the Road” Camp & Rally in Combe Haven Valley on 29/30 September, celebrating the beauty of the valley and enjoying a remarkable weekend of speeches, workshops, shadow puppetry, children’s theatre, story-telling, campfires, local music and great food. Nearly half of those attending signed a new pledge, expressing their willingness to ‘take part in acts of peaceful resistance to the road’, with some fifty people taking part in an “Introduction to Direct Action” workshop on the Saturday afternoon.
