‘A Congress of Curiosities’

Following on from The Big Jam Project, Hastings artist, Laurence Poole, will be exhibiting his latest collection of assemblage sculptural works at Trinity Art Gallery in Hastings.  The exhibition, called ‘A Congress of Curiosities’, includes HAL the NostalgiaBot, a man-sized robot with a TV head and plasma ball hands! Hot reporter, Joe Fearn has seen a preview and was very impressed. HAL’s body is constructed from a guitarist’s amplifier with a television for a head, which will be playing Dalek movies and old episodes of ‘Monkey'(!).

Horticultural harmony

The Bohemia Walled Garden, hidden within the trees and verdant undergrowth of Summerfields Wood, was once a neglected space in Bohemia, writes HOT’s Zelly Restorick. Now transformed by the vision and determination, hard work and perseverance of a team of local people, the Garden’s door will be open this weekend as part of the Heritage Open Day project.

Waterfall Little Roar

Lost Little Roar rediscovered

A lost temperate rainforest world is soon to be revealed in the heart of Hastings, reports HOT’s Zelly Restorick. Since April, a team of people, paid and volunteer, have been involved in clearing a path through the wilderness to re-discover the lost beauty of Little Roar ghyll, a waterfall in the depths of Alexandra Park. Sibling to the better known Old Roar, Little Roar has been largely inaccessible to any but the most determined of human visitors since the Great Storm of 1987.

Wanted: innovative ideas to use another Hastings wasted space!

Last Wednesday, Nick Sangster, the Council Officer in charge of the Coastal Users Group (CUG) organised a visit to the dis-used White Rock Baths for members of the CUG and other interested parties. Hastings Borough Council are looking for a tenant to take on this challenging but exciting space. Erica Smith attended, and spoke to Philip Oakley – a man who likes the challenge of re-inventing unloved spaces.
