Bohemia Walled Garden: 10 year celebration

In 2009, a group of local people discovered a hidden jewel underneath brambles and weeds in Summerfields Wood and over the next 10 years, they turned it into a thriving community garden. Chairman John Freedman writes.

A chance to cherish Hastings’ heritage

Look around you! Too much of historic Hastings and St Leonards has been demolished or abused, or is under threat, but despite regrets some people really like what’s left in the borough, finds Bernard McGinley. Exceptional places are visitable thanks to the Love Architecture Festival and Heritage Open Days.

Horticultural harmony

The Bohemia Walled Garden, hidden within the trees and verdant undergrowth of Summerfields Wood, was once a neglected space in Bohemia, writes HOT’s Zelly Restorick. Now transformed by the vision and determination, hard work and perseverance of a team of local people, the Garden’s door will be open this weekend as part of the Heritage Open Day project.

Heritage Open Days 2012: a year to remember

Heritage Open Days is a national celebration of history that takes place in September every year. All over the country historic buildings will be throwing open their doors and welcoming the public from Thursday 6 to Sunday 9 September. The scheme gives people the chance to see inside special places of historic interest that are usually closed or not well known. And best of all everything is free!
