A star-studded line up for this year’s Mental Health Awareness event

Move your body for Mental Health Awareness Week

Hastings is marking this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week with lots of movement keeping with this year’s theme #MovementForMovement by way of how we know best and that’s to dance! Mental Health advocate Sharon Rhodes shares what’s happening at Hastings Observer Building this Friday night.

With support from our East Sussex County Council Mental Health Commissioner, a late licence from Hastings Borough Council, Hastings Voluntary Action, Mr Men’s Room Hastings & St Leonard’s, Love Hastings and Hastings Commons, Mental Health Activist, event organiser and Campaigner Sharon Lisa Rhodes has a “Musical Extravaganza” planned for you all with a stellar lineup of some of the town’s finest talent all helping to raise vital Mental Health Awareness! Sharon has lived with mental health diagnoses of rapid cycle bipolar, PTSD and EUPD for over 20 years and is very passionate about busting the stigma and discrimination attached to mental health. She talks openly about her work and her life and is supported at home, in the workplace and in the community

Hastings has a high level of residents with mental health difficulties and we should be doing more! We have a long way to go but we do have lots of charitable organisations that can help take the pressure off waiting times to main stream services.

We will be welcomed in the bar at 6.30pm with a mix and mingle ready for our very own Ryan and Rachel Sim Savage aka Rachel Spinetti and Dr Savage to compère for us introducing our Hastings Punk Choir onto the stage in the huge brand new event space at The Observer Building. Then Lily Kim, Siddy Bennett and Hannah Dennard will be inviting some friends on stage to make you smile. Next up we have Buoy and then at 9pm some great DJs including Jack Wilson of Kid Kapichi, Knewmi, Lemur Beats, DJ Tizzle and more will be playing some bangers for us to move our feet to.

There will be a quiet space where Hastings Voluntary Action and Mr Men’s Room Hastings & St Leonard’s will be signposting you to local projects if you’re experiencing mental health distress or know someone who is!

MHAW Hastings is on Friday 17 May 6.30pm – 1am at the Observer Building, Cambridge Road, Hastings TN34 1DT
