Pelham Roundabout is on the seafront in Hastings, more or less on the border between Hastings Old Town and what is referred to as the New Town – basically the shopping centre, with a sterile mall and some struggling High Street chains. It is edged on one side by a car park on the front, on another by an Italian restaurant and on the third by a branch of Iceland and an office block called Aquila House – Aquila being pronounced by the locals to rhyme with Godzilla, writes Antony Mair.
Hastings-based artist Laetitia Yhap currently has an exhibition of her drawings and paintings of the Stade fishing community on show. But you will have to traverse Sussex all the way to Chichester’s Pallant House to see them. HOT’s Erica Smith went along for the ride and enjoyed viewing Yhap’s artworks from this new perspective.
The Green Gym schemes offer us the opportunity to take part in conservation activities in local parks and green spaces to improve our local environment and simultaneously our health and fitness. HOT’s Zelly Restorick spoke to some of the people involved in Green Gym to find out more.

As a cultural centre, I thought, surely Hastings ‘punches above its weight’? This did not prepare me for the wonderful performances of my favourite (Mozart) operas being performed over the last four years by the ‘Complete Singer Advanced Course‘ at St Mary in the Castle, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.
The Sussex Gardens Trust is looking for volunteers to take part in a new project to identify, investigate and help conserve designed parks, gardens and open spaces in Hastings.
