Turner prize nominees Project Art Works at Hastings Contemporary

It felt odd and exhilarating to walk into Hastings Contemporary and straight into, what in effect is, Project Art Works’ recreated studio space. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths was delighted to come face to face with large scrolls of paintings hanging in the Foreshore Gallery. Shortlisted for the 2021 Turner Prize, Hastings Contemporary has given locals the opportunity to see the artists’ work in their home town.

London exhibition for Hastings Project Arts’ Sharif Persaud

There is much to love about Hastings and St Leonards: not least the seaside and creativity here, but also the sense of community and support of people who are less well off or generally find life challenging. Project Art Works is a very special organisation that works creatively alongside people with complex needs. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths met up with creative director Tim Corrigan to talk about one of their artists/makers, Sharif Persaud, who has an exhibition of his work in London.

Project Art Works breaks through

The innovative Project Art Works is UK’s leading artist led organisation that works with people with profound intellectual impairment and complex needs. It was started 21 years ago. In Hastings. It is staggering what Hastings achieves with limited resources and massive enthusiasm and  ambition. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths applauds Project Art Works’ hard work.
