Recycle Swap Shop initiative

Members of the Transition Town Hastings Team have accomplished another of their goals by bringing the Swap Shop initiative here to the town. A brilliant idea where we can pass on the things we no longer want to other people who see our discarded items as discovered treasure – and we can search for things we do need/want.

Leaflets showing bin collections for the festive period will be hitting doormats across Hastings over the next few days. Each household will receive a personalised calendar telling them when to leave waste and recycling out for collection over Christmas and the New Year period.

In the past, I would say I have been a pretty eco-conscious sort, or more precisely, waste-conscious. Like lots of people I know, I give some thought about how a product and its packaging is made before I buy it, thoughts like “where has it come from”, and “where is it headed after I’m done with it?” HOT reporter Rebecca Snotflower reflects on the over-use and environmental hazards of plastic, and how these might be addressed.
