A photographic sense of place

It is certainly to be welcomed that there is a new gallery space in Hastings – at the former Observer building. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went there, with great anticipation, to see the PhotoHastings exhibition Pinups: A Sense of Place.

Exploring narratives & abstraction in Polaroid

Martin Everett’s images engender a ‘powerful atmosphere and sense of place, of landscape and memory, one that is consistently infused with the desire, uncertainty and expectation associated with darkness and the unseen.’ HOT’s Xaverine Bates asked him more about his work, now showing as part of Errors of the Divine at Electro for Coastal Currents.

De La Warr exhibiting local artists

Something odd is stirring in Bexhill. The De La Warr Pavilion is sponsoring and showcasing twelve local artists.  It is refreshing to see an art gallery looking towards their own vicinity rather than casting their eye further afield and jumping over what is straight in front of them. HOT reporter Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went to Bexhill to find out what  was happening in  the pop art gallery in an empty shop in the town centre.
