Two-year project aims to bring Country Park heritage to light

The heritage hidden in Hastings Country Park is to be brought to light in a joint project between Hastings Borough Council and environmental charity Groundwork South, supported by funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Nick Terdre reports.

People’s opera project into new phase – participants wanted!

Barefoot Opera are moving into a new phase of their ‘people’s opera’ with a call-out for participants to start working towards the performance of an extract in late April and full performance a year later. The first events take place this weekend: a workshop for would-be chorus members and sessions in musical improvisation as part of the Hastings Fat Tuesday Festival. Nick Terdre reports.

The Jerwood, and arts teaching at school, need a rethink

Dany runs an informal creative writing session once a month, focusing on one aspect of writing each session – could be dialogue, could be description, opening sentences, plotting, character, or any theme that makes good writing material (love, death, and pretty much everything in between).

Heart of Hastings seeks housing partner

There is good news and not-so-good news for the Heart of Hastings management team to report to shareholders and supporters about the Ore Valley housing scheme at its annual general meeting next Saturday: on the one hand it can apply for government funding made available for community-led housing projects, and on the other, at the council’s request it has to find a partner to assist in implementing the project.
