WRVN’s plans to transform the former Observer building in the Trinity Triangle have been given the go-ahead by council planners. The project is part of the Heritage Action Zone initiative, for which Historic England has announced funding of £2m. Nick Terdre reports.
As part of the Heritage Open Days event, the Alexandra Park greenhouse opened its doors last weekend to a host of visitors in a continued bid to help raise money for the ‘Lets Raise the Roof’ campaign. The event helped contribute £900 to the campaign’s £10,000 target which of writing stands at £9,309. Donations are still welcome as the campaign has been extended until 30 September. Funding for walking and cycling infrastructure provided by the transport ministry’s Emergency Active Travel Fund has given East Sussex County Council the opportunity to demonstrate its ambitions for creating safe and practical transport arrangements for pedestrians and cyclists alongside the traditionally prioritised road traffic. After years of interacting with the county council, however, cycling enthusiast Tim Godwin has lost all faith in its ability to provide good walking and cycling solutions. Nick Terdre reports.
Science-on-Sea is Hastings Urban Design Group’s proposal for the Town Deal, taking advantage of the town’s many connections with the sea. The cultural and scientific hub and visitor attraction would be centred on the redundant St Leonards church building on the sea front. Nick Terdre reports.

HOT’s Nick Terdre talked to Cllr Andy Batsford, Hastings Borough Council’s lead for housing and homelessness, about how the situation has been tackled since the virus turned our lives upside down, and the worrying prospects now looming up.
