Walking and cycling: “ESCC’s lack of ambition dispiriting”

Funding for walking and cycling infrastructure provided by the transport ministry’s Emergency Active Travel Fund has given East Sussex County Council the opportunity to demonstrate its ambitions for creating safe and practical transport arrangements for pedestrians and cyclists alongside the traditionally prioritised road traffic. After years of interacting with the county council, however, cycling enthusiast Tim Godwin has lost all faith in its ability to provide good walking and cycling solutions. Nick Terdre reports.

ESCC’s Active Travel package hit hard by local opposition

In the face of local opposition East Sussex County Council’s package of walking and cycling schemes funded under the government’s Active Travel programme has been substantially reduced – only five out of 16 schemes are definitely going ahead while the fate of another two has still to be decided. Cycling/walking route among proposals for Hastings in new active travel funding round

East Sussex County Council is now preparing proposals for the second round of funding under the government’s active travel fund. Grassroots groups in Hastings are proposing a sea front-station walking/cycling route as well as cycle racks in strategic locations. Nick Terdre reports.

Modest active travel measures proposed for Hastings

With a first-round allocation of £479,000 from the transport ministry’s active travel fund, East Sussex County Council is now awaiting approval from the ministry for the measures it has proposed. Nick Terdre reports.
