Documenting the Trump effect

Which Way the Wind Blows is the title of Su Bishop’s upcoming exhibition at Zoom Arts’ Warrior Square station gallery. The exhibition was born from her time in Chicago during the hot summer of 2016 during Donald Trump’s ultimately successful presidential election campaign, as Su explains.

Reality show host Davina McCall is to front a new studio show tackling modern-day dilemmas we all face – and Hastings is considered fertile ground for finding participants. Nick Terdre reports.

Ironwork in the park

Blacksmiths have started a three-month project to help an historic greenhouse start a new, working life. Ben Crosthwaite and Tobias Cobrin are cleaning, painting or replacing cast iron and steel  parts on the structure at Alexandra Park, Hastings, so that its ventilation  windows can function again. Sports village proposal moves ahead

The new sports village proposed to provide new grounds for Hastings United Football Club and Horntye Park sports complex has passed the first stage of scrutiny by the council. Among the next steps is the negotiation of terms for the sale of council land on which the village is to be built. Nick Terdre reports.

Toilet trouble

In case you don’t already know, the town centre public toilets are scheduled to be closed, due to lack of funding/funding cuts. Maybe not a hugely noteworthy piece of news, but vital if you need to find one fast.

Fly Kites Not Drones 2017

The other day on the East Hill, a drone flew over the trees above my head. The first I have seen. It was on a mission to somewhere. I didn’t like it… I value my Drone Empty sky and regularly express my gratitude for it, aware that in other countries, people have threatening drones in their lives. And if them, why not us – the technology isn’t the monopoly of certain people in certain lands. Here, John Enefer writes about participating in Fly Kites Not Drones.

Fish cruises home in wind-blown half marathon

Under overcast skies with strong winds gusting, Blackburn’s Ben Fish won the men’s race and Sarah Gruber the women’s in the 2017 Hastings Half Marathon. Nearly 3,500 entered the popular event, which as usual is expected to have raised thousands of pounds for charity. Nick Terdre reports.
