JJ Waller’s weekend highlights
Lately, Brighton-based photographer JJ Waller seems to be spending more time in St Leonards-on -Sea than his home town. He was back this weekend photographing street artist Stern Rockwell as he worked on a mammoth-sized but delicate illustration of a conga drummer in South Street. Stern is a Brooklyn-born Hong Konger who is used to painting the sides of sky scrapers. St Leonards is obviously going up in the world…

JJ Waller also visited the Kings Road street market and the first weekly market in St Leonards Church in London Road. Everyone is delighted to see this long derelict building gently unfurling for public use. The ground floor will be used for markets, but will be developed as a venue for wedding receptions.
The former church above retains its ecclesiastical splendour. It is planned to use it for civil partnerships – the perfect role for such a spectacular but now secular building.
