The local government ombudsman has upheld a complaint about Hastings Borough Council’s handling of developments in the Rocklands caravan park, but acknowledges that the council has taken action to improve its procedures. Last month Sandra went to support the RMT strikers at Hastings station for the first time. As a wheelchair user, she’s very worried about the Driver-Only-Operated train policy, because she can foresee that if trains can be operated by the driver alone, the chances are that the role of the guard/conductor/second person on the train will be eroded in favour of profits. The high rate of suicide in the UK has been highlighted by the publication of a report by the Parliamentary Health Select Committee calling for a better government strategy for suicide prevention. Turning Point, a social enterprise which works with vulnerable people often at risk of committing suicide, issued the following statement by their managing director for mental health, John Campbell. The Sanctuary Service, Turning Point’s mental health crisis service, is based in Hastings.
