ICO upholds complaint over HBC handling of FoI requests

The Information Commissioner’s Office has upheld a complaint concerning the time taken by Hastings Borough Council to respond to Freedom of Information requests and directed it to review its procedures. Data supplied by the council shows a worsening trend in response times. Nick Terdre reports.

FoIs reveal council’s Rocklands appeal costs

The legal costs incurred by the council in its efforts to keep the causes of landslides in Rocklands caravan park under wraps have been revealed through a series of Freedom of Information submissions. Judgement delayed in ICO appeal

The tribunal hearing HBC’s appeal against the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) ruling that it must release a geotechnical report on the landslips in Hastings Country Park has ended, but a decision is not expected until late January. Nick Terdre reports.

Further clampdown on accountability

Whatever happened to openness and transparency at HBC? asks Chris Hurrell of the Save Ecclesbourne Glen campaign. Changes to the Constitution of Hastings Borough Council were approved by full Council without any discussion by councillors in July 2017. These changes have removed the rights of the public to have certain planning applications considered by the Planning Committee.
