ESCC joins funding cut protest

East Sussex County Council has voted unanimously to oppose the government’s decision to end Local Welfare Assistance funding, the ultimate safety net for the most deprived, adding its voice to those raised against the move by local charities and the Local Government Association. Nick Terdre reports.

Baroque on a balmy evening

Baroque Opera Live, a performance group based in East Sussex, presents an evening of baroque music this Saturday at Vinehall School Theatre featuring music by Vivaldi, Purcell, Handel, JS and CPE Bach, with special guests Robin Green (tenor), Richard Woodall (bass) and Tim Willsone (flute/oboe), writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.

Aimed to be released no later than August this year, Dean’s No Rhyme; No Reason will definitely be one to find on our office bookshelf. Jessica Parker spoke to Dean about his newest accomplishment.

A Bird in the House: international novel by local author

Bronwen Griffiths is a familiar name to regular readers of Hastings Online Times. Over the years she has contributed short stories and poems. Back in February 2011, she happened to be on holiday in Libya when civil war broke out, and she ended up being airlifted out of the country by the Italian army. Like all good writers, personal experience feeds in to the creative process, and Bronwen’s first published novel is set partially in a Sussex town not unlike Hastings, and partially in Libya. HOT’s Erica Smith met up with Bronwen to separate the fact from the fiction…
