Come to Daisy’s Food Bank Party this Friday!

This Friday, 22 November, a little girl called Daisy is hosting a party in All Saints Church Hall, Sidley. There will be a visit from a Princess, a disco, dancing, drinks and snack – but this isn’t a birthday party – it’s a fundraiser for Bexhill Foodbank. HOT’s Erica Smith went to meet the amazing little girl who has organised this special event.

Free talks to help the elderly keep safe and healthy

Across April and May, four free educational talks will take place in Hastings, St Leonards, Bexhill and Rother, designed to help older people lead healthy and active lives, while also teaching them about self-care and the effects of ageing. HOT’s Jordan Dixon writes.

Carers charity wins Tesco prize

As part of Tescos Bags of Help, Hailsham appeal, local charity Care for the Carers recently received a first prize of £4000. The award will contribute to their efforts in supporting and raising awareness for unpaid carers across East Sussex. HOT’s Jordan Dixon writes.

Catering for dementia sufferers and their carers

In a new initiative Care for the Carers is launching support groups for unpaid carers of people with dementia. The groups will be based in three East Sussex towns, including Bexhill. Meanwhile Music for the Memory has released dates for the forthcoming meetings of its Battle singing group for dementia sufferers. Nick Terdre reports.

Another exhibition, Another Crossing

HOT’s Erica Smith was lucky enough to visit the Another Crossing exhibition in Bexhill’s Murmurations Gallery whilst one of the artists, Giovanna Del Sarto was in the building.

New dementia singing clubs across East Sussex

Dementia Support East Sussex, which promotes communal singing as a tool for helping dementia sufferers break through their isolation, has extended its activities with the formation of several new clubs across the region. Nick Terdre reports.

Un-Broken, an exhibition by local female artists at Murmurations Gallery, explores themes that complement Tonico Lemus Auad’s exhibition at the De Le Warr Pavilion. Erica Smith, who was not overwhelmed by the show at DLWP, went along with low expectations – and was pleasantly surprised.

Combating dementia with music-making

Music is a vital lifeline to dementia sufferers whose cruel illness cuts them off from the rest of the world in many ways. This philosophy is the driving force behind the work of Dementia Support East Sussex as they prepare for their second public concert on Saturday.
