New music magazine prepares for take-off

Hastings is soon to have its very own original music magazine in the form of The Stinger. With its launch fast approaching, Grace Vogiatzis went to find out more

First findings from link road digs

Archeological investigations along the route of the Bexhill-Hastings Link Road confirm that the area has a rich history of human habitation, East Sussex county archaeologist Casper Johnson said in a recent talk at Hastings museum. However, nothing has been found pertaining to the Battle of Hastings. A temporary exhibition of some of the finds is planned for Bexhill museum in February. Nick Terdre reports.

St. Mary in the Castle launches monthly “Have a Go” dance series.

This month sees the launch of St Mary in the Castle’s exciting  ‘HAVE A GO’ dance series; a monthly Friday night session in which beginners are invited to try their hand at a new dance style, then dance the night away with their newly learnt skills writes Hannah Deeble.

Duke visits youth employment project

HRH The Duke of York has visited WorkingRite, a charity dedicated to tackling youth unemployment across East Sussex. WorkingRite matches local young people with small, local businesses for a programme of extended, paid training and mentoring, writes Chris Cormack.

Big Local quiz night proves a hit in Ore

Northeast Hastings Big Local sponsored its first social evening in the form of a quiz night last Friday at Ore Community Centre. As well as raising the profile of Big Local, £300 was raised for St Georges Paediatric Children’s ward in recognition of their invaluable treatment of a local boy. HOT’s Ore correspondent Graham Hodgson reports.

Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland must be one of the most frequently illustrated books on the planet – but the world has probably never seen anything close to Chris Hoggins’ interpretation of it!  His lovable-yet-slightly-sinister characters, the Dweeblings, are well known to  afficionados of the Kave Gallery, but this latest exhibition sees them indulging in uncharacteristic activities.
