Hastings Pier is back in the hands of the community, and following the ceremonial re-opening of the gates yesterday, restoration is about to begin. In spring 2015 the town’s iconic structure is due to open for business again. Nick Terdre reports.
From the middle of August through early October 2013, 11 artists will be working in Hastings and St Leonards making temporary projects inspired by the unique coastal landscape and maritime activities. They come from European port and harbour cities in south-east England, Italy, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Poland, as part of the ‘Ici et Là-Here and There’ project, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack
In two years time, more stringent European standards will be applied to the quality of our bathing water and, based on current measurements, there’s a chance swimming in the sea at Hastings might be banned. However, all is not lost, writes HOT’s Zelly Restorick, there’s still time for us to make our part of the coast a place to happily and healthily enjoy the beach and sea.
