History of peace movement in the spotlight

With conflict so often hitting the headlines, it is heartening to be reminded that over the last 100 years or so individuals, whether acting on their own or collectively, have consistently and often creatively campaigned against war and for peace. With this in mind, Ann Kramer, author of two books on conscientious objectors, went to see People Power: Fighting for Peace, an exhibition on peace campaigners at London’s Imperial War Museum.

Rocklands’ new planting scheme draws criticism

Another planting scheme has been submitted by the Rocklands Caravan Park owners to shield the prominent holiday-let home from outside view, but critics maintain it still falls far short of what is required. Permission is also being sought to re-install solar panels. Nick Terdre reports.

Council ordered to disclose Rocklands report

Hastings Borough Council has been ordered by the Information Commissioner’s Office to release a document which should throw light on the cause of the landslip that has led to the closure of part of the Country Park. Nick Terdre reports.

Much to debate at SEG’s AGM

There will be much to chew over when the Save Ecclesbourne Glen group holds its annual general meeting (AGM) in late February – the owners’ successful appeal against the demolition of the Bunker, the battle to have it effectively screened from the Country Park and the other conditions set by the planning inspector complied with. Nick Terdre reports.

Planting scheme moves closer to approval

Hopes that the Rocklands holiday-let building – the so-called Bunker – would be properly screened from view appear to be fading, following acceptance by the council’s tree officer of the revised planting scheme. In the view of the Save Ecclesbourne Glen group, this is, or was, probably the last chance to shield visitors to the Country Park from views of the much disliked building. Nick Terdre reports.

Ombudsman upholds Rocklands complaint

The local government ombudsman has upheld a complaint about Hastings Borough Council’s handling of developments in the Rocklands caravan park, but acknowledges that the council has taken action to improve its procedures. Meanwhile the Save Ecclesbourne Glen group has again resorted to the Information Commissioner to get a proper Rocklands’ site plan from the council. Nick Terdre reports.
