ICO upholds complaint over HBC handling of FoI requests

The Information Commissioner’s Office has upheld a complaint concerning the time taken by Hastings Borough Council to respond to Freedom of Information requests and directed it to review its procedures. Data supplied by the council shows a worsening trend in response times. Nick Terdre reports.

Chair should have declared conflict of interest, says critic

The application for installing five kiosks on the pier was passed by HBC’s planning committee at its March meeting, but in the view of local resident Chris Hurrell the committee chair, Cllr Alan Roberts, should have declared a conflict of interest and left the room. In Mr Hurrell’s view, the chair was also remiss in allowing the pier owner to ramble on about irrelevant matters when answering questions from committee members. Nick Terdre reports.

Ruling lets HBC keep landslip report secret

Hastings Borough Council’s appeal against the Information Commissioner’s ruling that the Coffey 2 geotechnical report should be put in the public domain has been upheld. The decision leaves questions unanswered, but perhaps more importantly, there appears to be no prospect of remedial action to re-open the closed parts of Ecclesbourne Glen to the public. Nick Terdre reports.
