On Friday 25 June, Juliet Smith, Deputy Lieutenant for East Sussex, visited the Arts On Prescription (AOP) Friday session at His Place in Hastings town centre. Her visit was to recognise and thank the organisation for the support provided through lockdown to people in isolation across Hastings and the surrounding rural areas. HOT’s Erica Smith adds her ‘thank you’ to Tara Reddy and her team.
Tara Reddy was one of the founding members of Hastings Online Times and is a long-time community activist. She is also the driving force behind Arts On Prescription (AOP) – a scheme where people who are feeling depressed, lonely or anxious are ‘prescribed’ art and creative courses through their GP surgery. Tara will be the guest on Thrive at 5 this Saturday on Hastings Isolation Station. Here she tells us more about Arts on Prescription.
Tomorrow (Monday 18 May) is the first #ThriveAt5 show for Mental Health Awareness Week 2020. Isolation Station Hastings is launching a 5pm show which will be on every night of the week except Friday.
Come and meet local health and wellbeing groups including The Community Wellbeing Service, Health Trainers with INBODY machine, Home Works, Active Hastings, HARC, Educating Futures and Together Your Way. There will also be opportunities to speak to specialist agencies in areas including benefits, housing, debt and fuel poverty, carers’ support and volunteering.
This seminal book is as relevant today as it ever was, and Otherwords Productions are organising a free fundraising event to raise awareness of Robert Tressell and the important role the Ragged Trousered Philanthropists has played in our social history, both home and abroad. Organiser Tara Reddy describes the event to HOT reporter Cathy Simpson.
Doodle Day dawned grey and overcast. With a stiff breeze that threatened to take the edge of our first major public event, reports Chris Connelley.
