Free acrylic workshop in Bexhill

In Perspective Arts in Bexhill is offering a FREE hands-on painting demonstration this Saturday. Local Pevensey Bay artist, Christine Racher, will be working with Winsor & Newton Professional Acrylics – and you too can get actively involved.

Sustainability advisor backs 1066 Local Energy

Imagination, creativity and innovation. Intrinsic elements for our shared future. And elements encapsulated deep in the heart of 1066 Local Energy’s vision for Hastings and St Leonards on Sea for clean electricity generation. Alan Simpson, advisor on sustainability to the Shadow Cabinet and committed renewable clean energy advocate was the main speaker at a pre-launch gathering held at The Beacon, adding his enthusiastic support to the evolution of locally owned, lower priced energy production where the money generated would stay within the local community. Artists have long been captivated by flowers. Colour, black, white, abstract, still lives, nature mort, part of a landscape, interiors, large, small; flowers are irresistible. An inexhaustible topic. Georgia O’Keefe painted them graphically. Robert Mapplethorpe was consumed by the beauty of them. As is Bruce Rae. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went to follow Rae’s recent scent.

NJE’s Afloat passes the road test

When drummer Simon Charterton isn’t championing the more challenging bands in town at Weird Sh*t nights, he’s playing music in a handful of bands including his super-group, Near Jazz Experience. This star-studded trio have just released a new album, Afloat. Erica Smith takes it for a spin up the A21.

From Wildfell Hall to The Palace

The innovative theatre company Hallucinating Angels put Paula Yates in a big black dress and sexed up the De La Warr Pavilion, took you for a spin in the limo on their wedding day, invited you to share your shoe story in their pop up shop and chat about love in their tent. If you missed all that you can still experience Wildfell – a performance and film inspired by The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte.

Resolutions

Part of Coastal Currents Arts Festival, Resolutions is an arts & well-being project exploring how young people manage conflict. The Craftimation Factory, an award-winning Hastings based arts charity, will host a showcase event featuring the work of young people from Hastings & St Leonards at The Electric Palace, Hastings 20 September from 5-7pm. Janey Moffatt
