Love Hastings, Love Yourself

As part of World Mental Health Day on 10 October, ‘Love Hastings, Love Yourself’ is an all-day event open to everyone and anyone interested in mental health issues.

Heritage forum on 1066 and town development

This year’s heritage forum, to be held on Wednesday 12 October, will look at the relationship between the Battle of Hastings and the town’s later development as a coastal resort, as co-organisers the University of Brighton and Hastings Museum & Art Gallery explain.

Maya’s peace walk

A packed Friends’ Meeting House was the venue for a talk by local activist Maya Evans in a meeting jointly organised by the Hastings and District Interfaith Forum and Hastings Against War. The St Leonards resident spoke about her experiences of working alongside people of faith in various countries: Christians in America, Muslims in Afghanistan and Buddhists opposing US bases on the Japanese island of Okinawa. Imagination Library launches in St Leos

Imagination Library, Dolly Parton’s visionary project to bring books to all children, was officially launched in St Leonards at Turner House. The scheme encourages young children to read books with those people who look after their well-being.

Free cartoon workshops for all

Hastings Cartoon Festival opened with a big cartoon BANG! last Thursday at Hastings Museum. The extensive Martin Honeysett retrospective is the first temporary exhibition in the main gallery for over 20 years, and is supported by an excellent collection of cartoons about the Battle of Hastings by Honeysett’s contemporaries from the Professional Cartoonists’ Organisation in the upstairs gallery. The shows deserve a couple of hours of your time, and will guarantee to put a smile on your face on the dullest of autumnal or wintery days.
