Call out to cartoonists and cartoon fans

Local residents and devotees of Hastings and St Leonards on Sea, Penny Precious and Erica Smith, have been – and are still – working their creative and innovative socks off to make the first Hastings and 1066 Cartoon Festival an event that everyone will remember. They’ve sent out a final call for cartoon submissions, announced a T Shirt competition and asked for volunteers on the BIG Day!

Free cartoon workshops for all

Hastings Cartoon Festival opened with a big cartoon BANG! last Thursday at Hastings Museum. The extensive Martin Honeysett retrospective is the first temporary exhibition in the main gallery for over 20 years, and is supported by an excellent collection of cartoons about the Battle of Hastings by Honeysett’s contemporaries from the Professional Cartoonists’ Organisation in the upstairs gallery. The shows deserve a couple of hours of your time, and will guarantee to put a smile on your face on the dullest of autumnal or wintery days.

Film focus on equine therapy for autism

The Horse Boy is an extraordinary film about autism, screening this Thursday 19 May, with a live Q&A at 8pm, at the Electric Palace. Mongolia is the setting for this documentary, which chronicles the journey of the Isaacson family as they travel in search of a mysterious shaman who they believe can heal their autistic son, says Annie Waite.
