Mwana, Miracle of Dawn

Mwana, Miracle of Dawn, is an exhibition by Hastings photographer Georgie Scott which documents the immense tragedy of mothers dying in childbirth or labour and the high rates of child mortality in developing countries. Part of the PhotoHastings festival, the exhibition is on display at the Hastings Trust building, 34 Robertson Street, Hastings, from 18 October until 1 November. Georgie Scott spoke to John Cole about her work.

Local painter, crest-of-the-waves photographer and filmmaker, Nick Snelling, is exhibiting at The BlackShed Gallery, evolving his relationship with the sea, his camera and his paints and pallette. HOT’s Zelly Restorick asked him some questions about his inspiration.

Passion turns to jealousy. Hope turns to despair. Order turns to anarchy. Beneath the blazing sun, a bull is slaughtered for sport, as outside the arena a gypsy girl lies dead, murdered by her jealous lover. Passion and brutality dance hand in hand in a spectacular, full-scale production of ‘Carmen’ at the White Rock Theatre on the 24 and 25 October.

PhotoHastings sends postcards to London

The exhibition, Postcards From Robert’s, which has been curated by Professor Val Williams as part of the PARC ARCHIVE-MANIA season 2014-15, opens tonight at the UAL London College of Communication. It is a partnership exhibition between PhotoHastings 2014 and the Photography and the Archive Research Centre (PARC) at UAL, London College of Communication.
