No more ear-candling in the Old Town

That’s if East Sussex County Council gets its way!  And no more chiropody and podiatry, no more computer rescue, carers’ therapies, massage and yoga, calligraphy, local history group, philosophy classes, bridge and scrabble, art and fruit & veg market. This is just a snapshot of the activities aimed towards older people available  in the Old Town’s Isabel Blackman Centre, which East Sussex County Council (ESCC) wants to close as part of its cuts programme, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.

Drawing Paradise on the ‘Axis of Evil’

Local artist, peace campaigner and activist, Emily Johns, travelled to Iran in 2006 and again this February on an international peacemaking delegation. The resulting artwork is being exhibited at the Hastings Arts Forum and offers personal insights into life in Iran, past and present. HOT’s Zelly Restorick went along to take a look.

Accordion heaven

For lovers of the accordion this was indeed a weekend to be remembered with not one, but two outstanding performances. On Friday night we were treated to the dry wit, political satire and Jewish Klezmer punk of Canadian Geoff Berner and his stripped down band of violin and paired down drum kit. On Saturday we had the Tiger Lillies, playing dark songs with disturbing lyrics at the Stade. HOT’s John Knowles was there.
