Idea-gathering for cultural mobilisation

Meet Lorraine Bowen
Lately, Lorraine Bowen is all over the Creative Coast of Hastings, St Leonards and Bexhill. She’s a comedian, a singer (conducts the Gay Men’s Chorus in Brighton and gave Billy Bragg singing lessons), and she is half of Hastings’ favourite fusion Folk/D’n’B act – The Chalkwell Ladies Drum’n’Bass League. HOT’s Erica Smith is such a big fan, she’s off to see Lorraine on Thursday night at Back in the Room, and booked the Chalkwell Ladies to celebrate her fiftieth birthday on 2 August. Last Saturday saw the triumphant return of the St Leonards Festival to the weekend, after last year’s midweek rescheduling to allow our proud gold-suited local ambassadors to serenade the Olympic flame in the immediate run-up to that ultimate feel-good summer. St Leonards Festival and Big Day Out
Rather than trying to describe what a wonderful day this was, we are letting the pictures do the talking. Photographer JJ Waller has been photographing regularly in St Leonards on Sea since the summer of 2008 (but see also Chris Connelley’s first-timer thoughts).
New Archery Ground design to be unveiled
Gladedale’s revised scheme for the Archery Ground is ready for submission to the planning department, but will first be put on display to the public this Saturday in the Assembly Rooms in St Leonards, writes Nick Terdre.
