Transport poverty in Hastings can be changed
Road planning in our town denies access to many residents. Those who do not have a car and rely on pedestrian routes, buses or bike routes are definitely getting a poor deal in Hastings. Transport poverty exists in our community and goes unrecognised. Green Party candidate for Tressell, Catherine Taylor writes.
Responding to the Windrush generation ‘crisis’
Alex Ntung is a former refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Hastings was his home from the year 2000 until he moved to Canterbury in 2015. He is currently an Associate Lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Canterbury Christ Church University. He has occupied various roles and responsibilities in the area of community cohesion, and he is a co-founder of Education 4 Diversity charity. He is also the father of two children, both British-born (in the Conquest Hospital). Here, he writes about Windrush from his perspective.
Born To Be
A new higher education initiative launching in Hastings – Born To Be – will dispel university myths and support families. Hastings has been chosen as the launch town of a brand new university initiative asking local parents to sign up to receive a free University Taster Pack.
Do-or-die time for the pier
The Friends of Hastings Pier (FoHP) have been told they need to prove their ability to raise at least £1 million by next Tuesday to remain in the bidding race. It’s do-or-die time for keeping the pier in community hands. Nick Terdre reports.
Top musicians support festival welcoming refugees to Hastings
Award winning jazz musicians Liane Carroll, Ian Shaw and Sarah Jane Morris, and poet John Hegley, are among the artists appearing at Festival by the Lake on Sunday 24 June, 12 – 8pm in the beautiful surroundings of Ashburnham Place, near Battle, East Sussex.
