Journeys Dance Festival

A glorious weekend of dance is headed our way for Bank Holiday weekend as Journeys Dance Festival returns for its fifth year. Can you help? The Association of Carers provides free volunteer led support to unpaid Carers in East Sussex, including Respite and Befriending, Computer Help At Home, a telephone Talk and Support Service and more. The aim is to reduce isolation to support Carers to continue in their caring role.

Syria’s Disappeared

There will be a screening of the documentary Syria’s Disappeared at the Electric Cinema at 4.30pm on Saturday 9 September. Hani Fakhani, a former detainee will facilitate a Q and A session after the screening.

What would we do without them?

Here is a startling revelation about an army of volunteers. According to the NCVO, an estimated 12.7 million people volunteer in England once a month and in talking to three of them, it dawned on me that volunteering is… work. Often it’s hard and sometimes thankless work. I also found that the reward for such free labour is not just the warm glow you get from helping other people, though that is certainly part of it. 125 not out

Hastings Museum and Art Gallery’s 125th birthday celebrations were a great success on Wednesday 16 August. It marked 125 years to the day that Hastings’ first public museum opened, on 16 August 1892, with a re-creation of the original opening ceremony at 3.30pm, the exact time the museum was first opened.
