Syria’s Disappeared

There will be a screening of the documentary Syria’s Disappeared at the Electric Cinema at 4.30pm on Saturday 9 September. Hani Fakhani, a former detainee will facilitate a Q and A session after the screening.

From the website Syria’s Disappeared: “This documentary tells the hidden story of tens of thousands of men, women and children disappeared by the regime of President Bashar al Assad into a network of clandestine detention centres.

“The film weaves together the powerful personal stories of three Syrians with evidence gathered from regime documentation smuggled out of Syria.

“With unprecedented access, we follow survivors of detention, families of detainees, regime defectors and international war crimes investigators as they fight to bring the perpetrators to justice and desperately campaign for the release of the disappeared.”

The film is made by Afshar Films. Hani Fakhani is a Syrian architect and urban practitioner. He was sponsored by the UK government to come to the UK and do his masters at UCL in 2016 where he researched a topic about governance and reconstruction in Syria. He is a former detainee and a Syrian activist who took part in the peaceful uprising in 2011 and 2012 before having to flee.

Syria Solidarity UK are requesting a minimum ‘donation’ of £6 to cover the costs of hiring the cinema.
