The Wonder of Trees and Moths
Nature lovers and gardeners can discover the story of moths and trees at an event held at The Bohemia Walled Garden celebrating Heritage Open Day. The nation-wide, annual Heritage Open Day celebrates England’s cultural and architectural heritage. Linda Foy writes.
Volunteers at the Bohemia Walled Garden, off Bohemia Road, Hastings, are preparing to open their site to the public on Sunday, 10 September from 10am to 3pm.
An association was formed in 2009 to bring the Walled Garden back into use for horticultural, cultural and education events. The garden was originally part of the estate belonging to Bohemia House, home to the Brisco family from 1831 to 1901. Bohemia House was demolished in the 1970s.
On 10 September, volunteers at the garden, near Summerfields Leisure Centre will be promoting The Wonder of Trees and Moths with talks by experts.
Local moth expert Crystal Ray will be talking about moths from 10.30am to 11.30am.
Tree expert and author Dr Owen Johnson, who is registrar of the National Tree Register, will also talk about The Importance of Trees to Humans and Wildlife from 11.30am to 12 noon.
There will also be activities for children and adults, with music from 1pm to 3pm by Harmony One, The Wobblies and The Acapella Bellas. Refreshments will be available all day.
Go to Bohemia Walled Garden for more details of the Walled Garden events or email : info@bohemiawga.org.uk or follow the garden’s activities on Facebook and Twitter.
