Time To Shine

On Friday 23 September a group of service users from Seaview, a local centre supporting marginalised individuals within the community, will be at the Masonic Hall in St Leonards singing their hearts out with a live band of West End musicians, in a show that promises to be a truly inspiring experience. None of them have taken on such a challenge before, but with the help of The Time to Shine Project, they intend to face their fears and give their audience a night to remember! Zelly Restorick speaks to Alison Cooper to find out more.

HOT update on solar, salt water and wind energy

Some interesting updates in the alternative energy sphere: osmotic power, solar powered flight and solar bike power, wind power in Scotland, plus some info on a new solar panel roof design. Fascinating to see how those involved in the creation of alternative sources of energy are using their brain cells and the inspirational ideas they’re coming up with – and inspiration for those of us who would like to see more renewable energy sources. Envision an eco-coastal town that produces all its own energy. Zelly Restorick brings us up to date on developments in this exciting – and essential – area.

Funding opp for Hastings & St Leonards

Recently, local graphic designer, Sarah Macbeth, posted details online via Hastings Creatives of a funding opportunity seen as “a challenge to communities to work together to put culture at the centre of their local plans”. “Could be good for Hastings and St Leonards?”, Sarah wonders. Zelly Restorick writes.

2 Minute Beach Clean

Got two minutes? Then why not make a difference with a two minute beach clean. #2minutebeachclean is a project that was started in Cornwall by Martin Dorey and is rapidly sweeping across the world. And it’s good to see that Hastings has now adopted the scheme writes Zelly Restorick.

Another exhibition, Another Crossing

HOT’s Erica Smith was lucky enough to visit the Another Crossing exhibition in Bexhill’s Murmurations Gallery whilst one of the artists, Giovanna Del Sarto was in the building.

No9 Bus to Utopia by David Bramwell book cover

Find out about one man’s search for truth, beauty and some really funny stories as he visits Utopian communities, in a jolly and heartwarming live show this Friday 9 September at Electric Palace, Hastings, says Annie Waite.

‘Let’s Talk About Class’

Milan Rai, local activist, writer, trainer and peace advocate, is running a workshop, Let’s Talk About Class, this Saturday at the Friends’ Meeting House. Hot on the heels of his inspirational trip to the States to train with Betsy Leondar-Wright, a founding board member and founding trainer of Class Action, his inter-active workshop will be ideal if you’re interested in exploring the concept of class, social justice, equality and transition. Zelly Restorick reports.

The Sixties in black and white

It’s 50 years since the 60s were in full swing. Writers might nominate the 20s, 40s, or the 80s as times of particular fashion and culture but rarely do they conveniently start at the beginning of the decade. So 2016 is not a bad time to celebrate that extraordinary, happening time when it was in full swing.
