In a survey of their natural assets, East Sussex County Council (ESCC) have identified Combe Haven as a site of exceptional tranquility – far away from road noise and human interference. This also makes it a site of scientific interest, with an abundance of rare wildlife and an area of natural beauty, writes HOT journalist Erica Smith.
The leaseholder of the amusement park facilities on the Stade by the Old Town (from the Stade Hall to the western end of the miniature railway) is proposing to spend large sums of money in improving the whole area and, what is more, is consulting with local people before deciding finally on these plans. Hastings Old Town Residents Association talked to HOT’s Chris Cormack.
How many of you remember the West St Leonards Bathing Pool? I’ve only seen photos of it, writes Zelly Restorick, but I met someone a couple of days ago, who’d been there as a child. “It was an Olympic size swimming pool, filled with sea water,’ Janet Harding told me. ‘And there was a diving pool and in the winter, people used to roller skate around the outside of it. It was a place where people came together.”
The Bohemia Walled Garden, hidden within the trees and verdant undergrowth of Summerfields Wood, was once a neglected space in Bohemia, writes HOT’s Zelly Restorick. Now transformed by the vision and determination, hard work and perseverance of a team of local people, the Garden’s door will be open this weekend as part of the Heritage Open Day project.
