Peace in the Garden

The Peace Garden in Alexandra Park is a beautiful space, open to everyone. Somewhere to explore and sit, contemplate and ponder life – and now some new benches have been installed, which will only add to the overall serenity and sense of peace. Stade Saturdays and ROOT 1066 present Blacksmiths on the Beach at the Stade Open Space in Hastings. The British Artist Blacksmiths’ Association (BABA) visits Hastings with three days of blacksmithing demonstrations and workshops. Root 1066 celebrates Battle of Hastings

This year – 2016 – is the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings. Hastings’ attitude is celebrate while you can – why wait 50 years when you might not be around to commemorate the 1,000th? So this year, Hastings is marking the date with an international contemporary festival of the arts, ROOT 1066. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went to talk to Festival Director, Polly Gifford about what will be happening. 

The Stade, Hastings

The leaseholder of the amusement park facilities on the Stade by the Old Town (from the Stade Hall to the western end of the miniature railway) is proposing to spend large sums of money in improving the whole area and, what is more, is consulting with local people before deciding finally on these plans. Hastings Old Town Residents Association talked to HOT’s Chris Cormack.
