Opera garden party fulfils a dream

At the Way Forward meeting last night, Mandy Curtis from 18 hours told local residents about this year’s extended St Leonards Festival and why she wanted to add a ticketed opera garden party to the existing one-day, free community Saturday. HOT’s Erica Smith wanted to find out more and caught up with Mandy whilst she and her team of organisers set the finishing touches to the schedules.

Doodle Day

Doodle Day dawned grey and overcast. With a stiff breeze that threatened to take the edge of our first major public event, reports Chris Connelley.

That was the day that was

Last Saturday saw the triumphant return of the St Leonards Festival to the weekend, after last year’s midweek rescheduling to allow our proud gold-suited local ambassadors to serenade the Olympic flame in the immediate run-up to that ultimate feel-good summer. Another 7 Streets blog from Chris Connelley.

St Leonards Festival and Big Day Out

Rather than trying to describe what a wonderful day this was, we are letting the pictures do the talking. Photographer JJ Waller has been photographing regularly in St Leonards on Sea since the summer of 2008 (but see also Chris Connelley’s first-timer thoughts).

Harmony at Christmas

It has been a great year for musician, Debbie Warren, culminating in a brilliant performance of Benjamin Britten and John Rutter Carols at Christmas and her appointment as Soundwaves Community Choir’s first resident Music Director. HOT’s Chris Cormack looks at Debbie’s achievements in 2015 and carol concerts this Christmas. If you’ve  missed the concerts in the last few weeks you can still get in the mood for Christmas this Saturday at St Mary in the Castle with the Hastings Philharmonic Choir.
