Dollimore heads field of eight in Hastings & Rye

Pier bastardisation OK’d by HBC Planning Committee

On 5 June Hastings Borough Council (HBC)’s Planning Committee decided on the retrospective application for Listed Building Consent (LBC) for plastic fake olde lampposts  on Hastings Pier. The approval was unanimous. That was case HS/LB/24/00047. Will companion case HS/FA/24/00046 for the full application now go to Committee? Time will tell. Bernard McGinley reports on an evening of inconsistency.

New Jewish group calls for pledges from Parliamentary candidates

Hastings Jews for Justice, a new Jewish group launched to give voice to those in the community who do not currently feel heard or respected by mainstream political parties or the media, are calling on local parliamentary candidates to adopt five pledges. Nick Terdre reports.

Hastings assembles, for a people-led approach to the general election

There’s a general election coming, but does it matter who gets elected? The question is posed by a growing body of people who find themselves alienated by current party politics. On the back of their disillusionment a community assembly has been organised for Sunday 16 June, where fellow citizens are invited to decide for themselves what the priority issues should be. Council planners recommend retrospective approval of fake olde lampposts for the Pier

Civic pride apparently knows no beginning when it comes to Hastings Borough Council (HBC) and the Pier, supposedly the town’s central attraction. Retrospective planning application HS/LB/24/00047 is to be considered by the Planning Committee on Wednesday 5 June, but the companion case (HS/FA/24/00046) not also being considered — and what of the many existing breaches of Listed Building Consent there? The planners’ complacency or complicity is concerning, as is a false statement regarding enforcement action. Bernard McGinley reports.

Hilton explains all Green Cabinet

While Green Party council leader Julia Hilton reiterated her party’s position of wanting to work with other parties at last week’s annual Full Council meeting, she also found herself criticised for forming an all Green Cabinet. Though she confirmed her support for replacing the cabinet with a committee system, she did not see this being possible in the short term. Nick Terdre reports.

Free workshop on the parallel non-monetary economy

Kendal Eaton wants to start a movement based on his theory of the parallel non-monetary economy which he claims is a peaceful means of empowering people to regain control over their lives without provoking violent opposition from the wealthy elite. As a first step he is holding an introductory workshop on Thursday 30 May. Nick Terdre reports.
