This is the first public exhibition of South Korean artist Yun Hyong-keun, 1928-2007, in the UK, an artist virtually unknown in this country but well known and celebrated in his own country. Before entering Hastings Contemporary to see his work, HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths read his biography; the idea of a man who had been expelled from arts school, imprisoned twice and tortured made her feel somewhat inadequate in the presence of a life lived.
When ex-employees of the Pier took their employer, Pier-owner Sheikh Abid Gulzar, to the Employment Tribunal last year, the Decision was entirely in their favour. Nearly £75,000 was awarded against the Pier company. Well over a year later, there has been no payment from Lions Hastings Pier Ltd. In view of this noncompliance and the persistent record of poor management, a crowdfunder has been launched to wind up the company. The target is £7,000. Bernard McGinley reports.
