‘Stilled’ at The Stables

For the last 10 years, British surrealist Katherine Reekie has been painting imagined still lives. From now until early August she is exhibiting 35 of them in the gallery at The Stables Theatre. Erica Smith talked to the artist about these sculptures-that-don’t-exist.

Gilad Atzmon Trio play Jazz Hastings in July

Award-winning saxophonist Gilad Atzmon will be headlining at the Jazz Hastings July monthly session at the East Hastings Sea Angling Association on the Stade on Tuesday 5 July, along with his trio featuring two of the best known musicians from the contemporary British jazz scene. Hastings Young Writers seeks submissions for latest anthology

Hastings Young Writers group is compiling its 2022 anthology and is inviting contributions from anyone aged under 18 years, from Hastings and surrounding areas. Liz Caluori encourages local young writers to submit their creative writing and poetry.

It’s Refugee Week all week and all across town!

This year, Refugee Week (20–26 June) will see a unique series of creative actions and events taking place in multiple locations across Hastings & St Leonards and beyond, which highlight and value the migrant experience, promoting the Refugee Week 2022 theme healing through creativity and conversations. Alex Kempton shares the plethora of events across the town – culminating with the Sanctuary Festival from 11am–7pm at Hastings Museum on Sunday 26 June.

Celebrate Nana Tsiboe by singing at St Leonards Festival

Ghanaian-born Nana Tsiboe who died last month was a regular performer at St Leonards Festival. Singers Amber Leafe and Juliet Russell want to bring together a choir over the next three weeks so they can perform some of Nana’s songs at this year’s festival.

Disabled access group on platform lifts and being spoken for

The inclusion of a platform lift in the proposal for a new restaurant on the council-owned site in Harold Place proved controversial. The disabled access group HAVE, as potential users, offer their own views on the matter.
