Nana Tsiboe leading a choir on The Stade
Celebrate Nana Tsiboe by singing at St Leonards Festival
Ghanaian-born Nana Tsiboe who died last month was a regular performer at St Leonards Festival. Singers Amber Leafe and Juliet Russell want to bring together a choir over the next three weeks so they can perform some of Nana’s songs at this year’s festival.
Juliet Russell said, “To celebrate the life of Hastings based master musician Nana Tsiboe we are going to come together as a community at the St Leonards Festival to perform some of the African songs he taught. This is a call out to any adults (15+) who would like to sing – all are welcome. It doesn’t matter if you knew Nana – or have much experience as a singer, you are welcome to be part of this celebration of a man who gave so much music to our community. It is also a chance to connect and meet people at the Thursday sessions.”
Participants must be available for all three rehearsals and the performance at St Leonards Festival. Rehearsals will take place on Thursday 23 and 30 June and 7 July at 7-8.30pm at Hattons Yard, 4a Hatherley Rd, St Leonards-on-Sea TN37 6LB. Hattons Yard is an outside space, so please dress warmly and bring water – feel free to bring a deckchair. There is a suggested donation of £7–10 per session.
The 15 minute performance will be on Saturday 9 July at St Leonards Festival, Warrior Square between 4–6pm. (Exact time to be confirmed.)
