A new study is underway to help improve sleeping patterns for people living with dementia and their relatives. Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is behind the new psychological intervention. You can register to participate if you are a carer or if someone you care for has dementia. HOT’s Zelly Restorick reports.

The prospect of a large housing estate being built on Bulverhythe Rec has disappeared following Hastings Borough Council’s decision to withdraw its application. The move follows an unfavourable assessment by the Environment Agency of proposed measures to counter the flood risk. Nick Terdre reports.
Jumble aficionados and upcyclers on the hunt for treasures should visit the village of Three Oaks, just outside Hastings, this Saturday, 19 March. The village hall is being put to good use to raise money for the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) Ukraine Appeal, which funds support, food, water, first aid, medicine, blankets and warm clothing for Ukrainians affected by conflict. According to the United Nations (UN), more than 2.5m Ukrainians have fled their country. Sarah Watson, wild food expert and Three Oaks resident, is one of the co-organisers.
The Rudes – The Rude Mechanical Theatre Company – have now cast their latest play, ‘Gods and Dogs’ and they’ll be in rehearsals in just over five weeks time! Local young carers have produced a new film sharing their experiences, to be launched on Young Carers’ Action Day! In partnership with charities, Care for the Carers and Culture Shift, the film, ‘Bursting the Bubble’, shares the young people’s experiences of caring. The film launches on 16 March as part of nationwide activities to mark Young Carers’ Action Day, with a special screening taking place for young carers, young adult carers, professionals and funders.
The planning committee report on the controversial lift case in Harold Place surprised many by recommending ‘Grant Full Planning Permission,’ despite the application’s obvious breach of the Equality Act and the Building Regs. The meeting is on Wednesday 23 March, and comments can still be submitted till Friday afternoon (18th, at 3pm). Only after the decision will East Sussex Building Control take a look.
