The village hall will be transformed into a ribbon-clad hub of activity and elbows for tomorrow’s jumble sale. Tea and cakes will be served on the sunny terrace.

Giant jumble for Ukraine at Three Oaks village hall

Jumble aficionados and upcyclers on the hunt for treasures should visit the village of Three Oaks, just outside Hastings, this Saturday, 19 March. The village hall is being put to good use to raise money for the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) Ukraine Appeal, which funds support, food, water, first aid, medicine, blankets and warm clothing for Ukrainians affected by conflict. According to the United Nations (UN), more than 2.5m Ukrainians have fled their country. Sarah Watson, wild food expert and Three Oaks resident, is one of the co-organisers.

The hall, decorated with blue and yellow ribbon, will be open from 11am until 2pm for the jumble sale, and there will be tea, cake and free parking. It’s conveniently located close to Three Oaks station, and down the road from the village pub.

Co-organiser and local resident Chrissy Harmar-Brown said, “The response to our callout has been fantastic and we’ve been inundated with offers of things to sell to raise money. We’ve got some really good quality gear, lots of stuff for kids and even a totem pole – not to mention delicious home-made cakes.

“I think the recent bombardment of Ukraine has resonated here and been a powerful reminder that any of us could find ourselves fleeing our homes and seeking refuge. Please come and support us – every bit helps.”

Last week, the nearby town of Battle raised over £7,000 with their hugely successful fundraiser and tea and cake sale. The jumble sale organisers in Three Oaks are hoping for a fantastic turnout from the village community, as well as Hastings and the surrounding villages too.

The sunny weather is an added incentive to visit this charming village for a country walk, a drink in the pub and a rumble in the jumble to support Ukraine!

The jumble sale runs from 11am to 2pm. Three Oaks village hall is within easy walking distance of Three Oaks station. The postcode is TN35 4NH.
You can find out more about the event on the Facebook page.

The nearby pub is already sporting blue and yellow ribbons in solidarity with Ukraine.
