A virtual exhibition at Hastings Museum and Art Gallery

Town Deal investment plan shielded from the public

Hastings’ Town Deal investment plan – which could net the town £25m – has to be submitted by the end of January. In the face of scant communication with the public, however, concerns have emerged about how the process has been managed, if the guidelines have been adhered to and whether the deal will prove, as intended, beneficial to the whole borough. New Year’s Day swim raises almost £2,000 for Hastings RNLI

The New Year’s Day swim to raise money for Hastings RNLI – Royal National Lifeboat Institution – has been taking place for around 20 years. This year, despite not being able to hold an organised event, the Old Town swimmers raised nearly £2,000. Sarah Corrie remembers her first New Year’s Day dip and interviews organisers Ann Novotny (87) and Craig Sams (76) to find out what the sea means to them.

World renowned historian to speak at Hastings Palestine event

The Hastings and Rye Palestine Solidarity Campaign (HRPSC) will host an online event next Wednesday 20 January discussing the issue of Palestinian expulsion. Set to speak at the event are historian Ilan Pappé and author Ghana Karmi. The HRPSC issued the following  preview.

We all came to expect the unexpected last year. From discovering the reemergence of birdsong to the less savoury COVID impacts many of us have had to face. It can certainly be called a ‘strange time’. Rowland Jobson was an early victim of Covid-19 and wanted to share his experience – and his appreciation of his Hastings Emergency Action Resilience Team (HEART) volunteer.
