Coronavirus statistical update: jump in Hastings cases

Coronavirus infections took a turn for the worse in Hastings last week, with several new cases reported, while the number of new cases in the rest of the county remains subdued. Coronavirus statistical update: test and trace finally goes local

The government has finally accepted that if test and trace is to work properly, local expertise and resources need to be incorporated alongside the centralised system, though there is as yet no indication that local authorities will be given extra funding to do local contact tracing. Separately the Department of Health and Social Care is said to be planning a merger of NHS Test and Trace with the pandemic response work of Public Health England. “Lack of vision” in HBC’s climate change strategy

Hastings Borough Council says it is taking steps to implement its climate change strategy, including establishing an internal board, and calls on residents to play their part. Cycling/walking route among proposals for Hastings in new active travel funding round

East Sussex County Council is now preparing proposals for the second round of funding under the government’s active travel fund. Grassroots groups in Hastings are proposing a sea front-station walking/cycling route as well as cycle racks in strategic locations. Nick Terdre reports.

Coronavirus statistical update: UK heads the death toll in Europe but East Sussex numbers remain low

As the coronavirus works its way towards peak effect, HOT is providing a regular update of the statistics for our region and the country provided by the public health authorities and other official sources. Latest figures show that the UK now has the highest death toll in Europe, though East Sussex, in both number of cases and deaths, remains relatively unscathed.
