Waves and Horizons

Like so many people, when artist Claudia de Grandi moved to the Hastings area twelve years ago, she fell in love with the sea. She started painting small watercolours at her favourite swimming spot, but over the years her obsession with the sea – and the size of her paintings – has grown. Erica Smith went to visit her whilst she was preparing for her open studio event this weekend.

Sea Change’s DWP ‘sweetener’ questioned

Campaign group Seachangewatch has questioned the ‘sweetener’ of a year’s free rent provided by Sea Change Sussex for the DWP staff moving into its Havelock Place office block. Meanwhile Sea Change is under way  with construction of an office block at its Bexhill Enterprise Park. Nick Terdre reports.

Friends make bold request to run the pier

While extending the Crowdfunding period, the Friends of Hastings Pier have made a bold request to the administrators to be allowed to run the pier during the second half of the year. Nick Terdre reports.

HVA’s Volunteer Week (1-7 June) initiatives

On Wednesday 6 June, Hastings Voluntary Action (HVA) will be in Hastings town centre talking to people about volunteering and encouraging them to spare a little of their time to make a huge difference in the local community. On Friday 8 June, HVA will be in St Leonards town centre. RNLI partnership with HBC

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution, who provide the ‘gold standard’ of lifesaving at sea, has been appointed by Hastings Borough Council to operate the Hastings beach lifeguard service for three years – to 2020 – after a successful pilot last year.
