Claudia de Grandi and Tymon Dogg celebrate the moon

This Saturday at 6pm in A Wave of Dreams gallery in Kings Road, St Leonards, there will be a remarkable collaboration to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the first moon landing. Painter Claudia de Grandi and violinist Tymon Dogg  plan to improvise together – mixing paint and music. HOT’s Erica Smith tunes in to the moonscapes.

Waves and Horizons

Like so many people, when artist Claudia de Grandi moved to the Hastings area twelve years ago, she fell in love with the sea. She started painting small watercolours at her favourite swimming spot, but over the years her obsession with the sea – and the size of her paintings – has grown. Erica Smith went to visit her whilst she was preparing for her open studio event this weekend.

Hastings IS the ideal landscape

Hastings Arts Forum is currently showing two exhibitions: The Ideal Landscape (Nigel Oxley and Claudia de Grandi) and West Indies to West Hill (Jennifer Baird). The images in each are very different – but they are nevertheless linked by the common theme of ‘journey’. West Indies to West Hill charts Jennifer Baird’s spiritual and geographical transition from the wild rain forests of Tobago to the quirky eccentricity of Hastings; The Ideal Landscape provides a visual documentation of Nigel Oxley’s journey to Snowdonia following a family bereavement. Claudia de Grandi celebrates the journey from pure painter to intaglio printer.
