Life’s a beach in Hastings

Beaches in Hastings have been recognised for their high quality. Marina Beach in St Leonards has been awarded both the coveted Blue Flag and the Seaside Award, and Pelham Beach in Hastings has received the Seaside Award. The awards recognise and reward beaches in England that achieve the highest standards of beach management and, in the case of bathing beaches, meet water quality guidelines.

Charity auction for Hastings’ families

Education Futures Trust, the Hastings based family support charity, will hold their annual fundraising auction on Friday 30 June, raising vital funds to help those in need. The Auction of Promises will be hosted by auctioneer, Paul Howard and will be held at Hastings United Social Club. Hastings United FC has kindly donated the venue and staff services for the evening.

The Big Sleep 2017

Registration for The Big Sleep, the annual sponsored sleep-out raising funds for the Seaview Project, is now open. The Seaview Project’s sponsored mass sleep-out returns to The Stade this September, raising awareness and funds for some of the town’s most vulnerable people. 

Zooquarium!

Glastonbury eat your heart out! Zooquarium is here. Hastings Pier is delighted to announce, not only a whopping line up of over 54 acts for Zooquarium festival on Saturday 15 July – Rat Boy is headlining – but also a selection of quality comperes including the wonderful Doon MacKichan, sister of local musical hero, Blair and uber famous in her own right for ‘Smack the Pony’ and ‘The Borrowers’.

Bags of Help for Energise Sussex Coast

Energise Sussex Coast is bidding to bag a massive cash boost for its ‘Science Lab on the Beach’ project from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative. This really is an excellent community organisation, who are doing all they can to reduce local fuel poverty and develop local community energy, so that the benefits stay within Hastings and St Leonards. HOT’s Zelly Restorick writes.

Delay to reopening of Hastings Library

Hastings Library will reopen later than expected – to give contractors more time to protect the fabric of the historic building. The library, in Claremont, has been closed since February last year for a complete revamp. The finished building will also house the children’s library which is currently based in Robertson Passage.

Community energy events

Brilliant innovative ideas coming to fruition. Just a reminder of the two local community energy events that are happening in Hastings, coinciding with Community Energy Fortnight. The goal is to produce local community energy to benefit the local community.

Auction of work by Zoom Arts members to raise funds for Hastings Supports Refugees

Every year Zoom Arts presents a group exhibition of work for auction, the proceeds from the sale of work being directly donated to a different charity each time. This year’s auction, which takes place this week, will be raising money for Hastings Supports Refugees.
