Car-Toon capers!
The Really BIG Cartoon Day is approaching – for those who don’t have it in their diaries yet it’s the day after the bonfire, Sunday 16 October. HOT’s Erica Smith is one of the organisers, and here she tells you what is going to happen, as well as why she got involved.
Time To Shine a huge success
After ten weeks of rehearsals, The Time to Shine Project, working with individuals and choir members of The Seaview Project, held their finale night at The Royal Masonic Hall, delighting their audience, who sang along, cried, laughed, cheered and gave the participants standing ovations. Twas truly a night to remember – for everyone involved. Zelly Restorick writes.
To frack or not to frack
This morning, I received an email from 38 Degrees about fracking in the UK, talking about the possibility of the government over-riding the community and local council in Lancashire and allow fracking to take place. If this happens, a precedent will be set. How would we feel if the same thing happened here, if maybe Hastings Country Park or the countryside around Battle or Romney Marsh were targeted as an ideal fracking location? Zelly Restorick writes.
Call out to cartoonists and cartoon fans
Local residents and devotees of Hastings and St Leonards on Sea, Penny Precious and Erica Smith, have been – and are still – working their creative and innovative socks off to make the first Hastings and 1066 Cartoon Festival an event that everyone will remember. They’ve sent out a final call for cartoon submissions, announced a T Shirt competition and asked for volunteers on the BIG Day!
Battle Festival offers literary and visual delights
The third annual Battle Festival is officially underway this week after launching last weekend with the world premiere of brand new opera, PUSH, in collaboration with Glyndebourne Opera. “PUSH was a thrilling way to launch the festival”, says Sally Lampitt, Festival Director, “paving the way for a month of exciting international arts in Battle, with something for everyone.”
World Mental Health Day event
At The Big Sleep for Seaview, HOT’s Zelly Restorick met Sharon Rhodes and discovered that she’s the catalysing energy behind the World Mental Health Day event, Love Hastings Love Yourself. Here Sharon introduces herself and the reasons why the event is important for the town’s residents.
