Bathing water contamination to be tackled

Hastings Borough Council, the Environment Agency and Southern Water are working together to tackle contamination in the bathing water, which threatens to affect its quality rating, writes Nick Terdre. As a seaside resort, Hastings stands to lose a lot if the quality of its sea-water is rated as poor and people are advised against swimming in the sea.

East End Photographs by Steven Berkoff

Steven Berkoff is well known as a director, playwright and actor – a creative giant of the theatre.  He is less well known as a photographer, but his genius is truly revealed in the current show at Lucy Bell’s Gallery in St Leonards. HOT reporter Cathy Simpson visited East End Photographs by Steven Berkoff and discussed his work with Lucy Bell.

With a new vegan cake shop (1066 Cake Stand), vegan bed & breakfast (BayTree House), vegan brewery (Hastings Brewery), and now a vegan cafe (Moose’s Kitchen) soon to open, it looks like Hastings could be the place to visit for vegans looking for tasty treats, as well those who choose to cut down on meat, dairy and eggs for health, environmental, or other reasons.
