Barbara Spackman has announced that a tribute will be paid to her husband Alan in the form of a concert in memory of this well-loved Hastings character. The programme will include a variety of music, anecdotes, humour and, of course, something from his beloved Beethoven. Barbara says that all are welcome to come and enjoy a glass of wine with Alan, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.
HOT is run by volunteers, but we still need funds to pay for hosting and web development.
Back in 1996, in the heady surroundings of Lewisham Registry Office, I said my wedding vows to the man who was to become my husband, writes HOT’s Zelly Restorick. A few years later, I was divorced – and aware that I’d broken the promise I’d made to stay together with him “’til death us do part”.
Sponsored walkers are looking to raise £1,000 for charity by walking about 60 miles from St Leonards-on-Sea to Canterbury in April. The walk is being organised by Ian McNulty, manager of an Abbeyfield South Downs House at St Leonards. Ian leads a team out each year to raise funds to keep a mini-bus on the road for residents, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.

Hastings is strong on self-help, mix and match and patch and repair to solve its day to day problems of making do. Self-help organisations, such as Freegle, Hastings Creatives and Hastings Network help small businesses, micro-businesses and the voluntary sector that make up Hastings’ creative community to network and exchange resources and expertise. What if a new initiative could bring extra resources and expertise into this sector, care of “our bank”, the nationalised Lloyds Banking Group?, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.
